59th LONDON FILM FESTIVAL (7th-18th October 2015) DAY 6
Every day (from October 7 to October 18) I will be selecting the London Film Festival choices you have a chance to get tickets for and the movies you are unlikely to see in London very soon unless you go to see them at the Festival. Here is the LFF's main website for the general information you need. Don't worry if some of the recommended films are sold out by the time you read this as there are always some tickets on offer which go on sale 30 minutes before each screening. Rocco is like an opera without the arias. A mother and her five sons abandon the poverty of southern Italy and head for the economic promise of Milan, only to find their relationships implode as the brothers battle over love, passion and morality. Rocco’s epic, emotional sweep is guaranteed to leave you emotionally drained by the end. It’s not just Luchino Visconti’s masterpiece, but also that of cinematographer Giuseppe Rotunno. Whether he’s framing the fragile beauty of Alain Delon or the vistas of the city, his lustrous black and white camerawork is breathtaking. Here it could not be better served than by this magnificent restoration. And to cap it all, two scenes that were victims of the censor’s scissors have finally been reinstated.
