When Mr and Mrs Robinson return early from their annual holiday, they are shocked to find out what their grown-up children have been up to in their absence. Living in sin was very much taboo in the 1940s. Muriel Box used her script as an opportunity to gently poke fun at convention and air her more liberal views on pre-marital sex.
