Smooth Talk (Chopra, 1985): BFI Southbank, NFT2, 8.50pm

This 35mm presentation, which is also being screened on May 19th (details here), is part of the 'Lost in America' season at BFI Southbank. You can find all the details of the season, taglined 'The Other Side of Reagan's 80s' here.

BFI Southbank preview:
The sugary comforts of the 1980s coming-of-age drama are spun into a more unsettling confection in Chopra’s sensitive yet troubling film. In a brilliant first lead performance, Laura Dern plays Connie, a typical 15-year-old Californian with a fractured relationship with her mother and a fledgling sexual awareness, whose attraction to enigmatic older misfit Arnold Friend (Treat Williams) brings unforeseen danger.

Here (and above) is the trailer.
