of aborigines accused of ritual murder sparks dark dreams of the
apocalypse. Peter Weir’s 1977 thriller isn’t free of the metaphysical
baloney that buried his Picnic at Hanging Rock, but it’s a much more effective film in genre terms—Weir does manage to deliver the goods
