The Southerner (Renoir, 1945): Cine Lumiere, 2pm
This screening is part of the Travelling Shots season at Cine Lumiere and is shown again at the cinema on December 17th. Full details here.Chicago Reader review:
Jean Renoir’s 1945 examination of dirt farmers in the American south is
probably his finest Hollywood film, which is to say a masterpiece. There
isn’t much of a story, but the film has a sense of people and place
that gives it a tremendous weight and authenticity. The visuals seem
sunbaked, blistering.
