Capital Celluloid 2023 — Day 23: Mon Jan 23

Long Weekend (Eggleston, 1978): BFI Southbank, NFT3, 8.30pm

This film, also being screened on January 10th, was chosen by director Mark Jenkin as part of his 'The Cinematic DNA of Enys Men' season at BFI Southbank. Full details here.

Mark Jenkin introduction:
The links to my film are pretty clear here: the insects, the birds, the rocks, the sea, the foreboding threat inherent in the natural world. Probably the closest we get to an ecosophical film in this season, Long Weekend nevertheless has just as much in common with Bait as it does Enys Men. I first saw this film 20 years ago and the message was clear and stayed with me: respect the locals!

Here (and above) is the trailer.
